Sensei Malcolm Keeps The Kids Engaged Whilst Ensuring Focus...
"As parents of one of the young kids in the Juniors class, we see numerous benefits in our child's participation in the classes. These range from the obvious physical benefits of Jiu-jitsu to the awareness of personal safety around strangers and learning respect, discipline and self-discipline.
The kids are also encouraged to incorporate these values at home and at school. Sensei Malcolm has a great sense of humor that he incorporates into the classes to keep the kids engaged while also ensuring the kids focus and take their training seriously."

Fortunately, there are also many options regarding Martial arts for kids in Calgary.
With young children it is not so much about the Style or Club, it is much more to do with the Instructors and the way they teach. Do they relate well to children, do the children relate well to him or her?
Before you get your children involved with a particular club, go and watch a few sessions, let your kids try a few sessions, if they enjoy it, they will surely want to go back.
We really want to give them a good experience as this could develop into a life long passion but give them an early put-off and they will never want to go back to it.
Don't just sign up with a club because it's 5 minutes from the house, go there because it is the best choice for your child.
Which Martial arts are available for kids in Calgary? Once again. all the popular styles ara available - Karate, Kung Fu, Tae Kwon Do, Judo, Jiu-Jitsu, Tai Chi, Krav Maga, and then there are also the more conventional systems such as Boxing and Wrestling.
It is important that you find a school that will teach the fundamentals in a fun environment. Kids need that fun element in order to learn and to help them want to come back each and every week.
What is the best of the Martial arts for Kids in Calgary, If I was to give my completely biased opinion, then I'd jump up and shout out "Jiu-Jitsu of course" but it is really not that simple. Each system is very different from the next and each has it's own function. There really is no - one style fits all".
But in all honesty, Jiu Jitsu does offer some great advantages - It is an art that forms the basis of many others such as Karate, Aikido and Judo. So there is good variety to learn and they get an opportunity to see and learn a wide variety of different areas.
I did not just stumble upon Jiu Jitsu, I actually do practice what I preach. I had already gained a very good foundation in Combat sport through Boxing and karate but I had decided to find something much more practical. I visted several schools, I talked with several Instructors, I watched many hours of training and I also tried a few different classes.
Jiu-Jitsu is certainly what I was looking for!
Find Out if there is a Fixed Term contract - Find out what you are letting yourself in for. Is there a contract and how long is the term? A semester or 3 months should be as much as you have to commit to but be weary as some Clubs will try to get you signed up into a longer contract.
You should really do your due dillgence and go watch a few classes, speak to the Instructor, watch theb students in the class train. Find out if they are geared towards competition or modern self defense
More Questions - Decide how far you you are prepared to travel to classes, how often they are held? How many students in the class? How many Instructor? Do adults and children train together? Do they give you a few trial sessions mto see if you like it? Is there a registration fee? Do you require a uniform?
