Free Self Defense Courses in Calgary
admin | July 19, 2009 |
INVITE YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS or even come along yourself.
One of the areas that I really believe in, is making Free Self Defense Courses available to the public. Not everyone wants or needs to attend training sessions 2,3,4 and 5 times per week like many of us do.
Some people just want a confidence-boosting, couple of hours course. We make these available to anyone inside and outside the club, every month as a minimum.
This course is available to members and Parents as well as the general public so do please feel free to pass this information on to others.
We also hold courses for Companies and Organisations and although there is a small fee for them, they make excellent team-building events that provide some essential knowledge and skills to their members.
We make Free Self Defense Courses available throughout Calgary so be sure to let people know about them or even attend one yourself if you have not done so already:
The next Free Self Defense Course will be held on Saturday August 15th, Feel Free to forewarn friends and family as there are only limited spaces available.
Who knows, just one snippet of information from everything taught during the Course just may make a difference at some time in the future.

Ultimate Body-shaping Course
admin | July 19, 2009 |
Our Adult Class has been experiencing a 30 minute Fitness Session right after the Jiu Jitsu Class, it has become very popular too.
The good news is that this is going to be available to many more people in the very near future.
A 10 week Fitness Program, classes will be held 6 days per week, twice per day so there is plenty to choose from.
The fat busting, body shaping course utilises basic punching and kicking techniques, Resistance Training and helps you to follow a simple, yet very healthy Nutrition Program. These are all very essential elements of a successful health and Fitness Program.
During the next few weeks, we are running through the Program with some adult Jiu Jitsu Members. If you would like to be one of those members to reap the benefits then let me know asap.
This Fitness Course will then be made available to anyone else at the start of the Fall Semester.
There are limited spaces available so be sure to claim yours.

Adult Senior Belt Classes
admin | July 18, 2009 |
Many Students have already expressed and Interest in classes specifically for the higher Belts. It is something we really need to incorporate. I don’t want anyone to stop working on the Lower Curriculum Techniques as these are what really create the Foundation for everything else we do. We must establish and maintain a Strong Foundation on which to build.
I mentioned recently that we will be starting these classes through the Summer Semester.
We will experiment to see which day is going to work best for our students and then integrate the class Full-Time into the Fall Semester.
Thanks to all who have already given me some feedback regarding these classes.
We still need your feedback to make this work effectively for everyone

Giving Credit Where It’s Due
admin | July 18, 2009 |
People join a Martial Arts Club like Jiu Jitsu Calgary for many reasons. Many have experienced violence or know someone else who has and are taking steps to avoid that themselves, others want to increase confidence and Self Esteem, some are looking for an activity that can be life-long, several of our students are putting themselves in potentially dangerous situations as part of their daily jobs but one of the most common reasons people have joined us is to increase their fitness and health.
-
It’s a great reason to join a club like ours, so many people do not spend enough time looking after themselves and put several others higher on their priority list. But why? at the end of the day, you need to keep yourself fit and healthy, concentrate on yourself first and you’ll find others following the example you set. At the end of the day health is all we have, without it, we have nothing.
-
The Fitness classes we now hold are proving to be very popular and we are only part way into it’s integration. Students who participate regularly are already beginning to talk of their great results.
-
The Program teaches very basic Martial Arts Techniques, combines Resistance Exercises, Flexibility and encourages good Nutrition. Anyone who follows such a program is going to get results.
-
On this note a special mention goes to Alex Wilson who dropped 30 pounds last Semester. Alex had already lost 70 pounds just prior to joining the club. Losing 100 pounds in 12 months is a fantastic achievement - Well done Alex!
-
I’m sure that achieving your complete weight loss goal is just around the corner, then you’ll be setting your next one and being just as successful with that.
-
Everyone - Please Join me in Congratulating Alex, It’s a GREAT accomplishment

Kids Martial Arts in Calgary
admin | July 18, 2009 |
Juniors
Junior Classes are still available on Mondays and Wednesdays or Fridays and Sundays. It’s a much smaller group who will greatly benefit from attending this Summer Semester. This is a great opportunity to add some of the fun sessions that kids will highly enjoy and reap the benefits from -
One-on-one padwork, An Introduction to sparring, Jousting, Fun Circuit Training and enjoying many Martial Arts based games to really keep the enthusiasm high. All on top of taking their curriculum training another step in the right direction.
Many adult students have commented on how well the kids are progressing too, which is always a great compliment to the Junior Students.
Junior Leaders
Junior Leaders will start back fully in September. This is an important addition to the Junior Program which will prove to make a big difference to all those involved.
I will also be providing information for the other 3 additional training sessions of the Semester before the Semester even begins so that you can plan to be there.
It’s all very exciting, the kids are going to love it and the parents very impressed by the kids renewed enthusiasm and development.
The Kids will be moving through several stages :
- Juniors This is the basic Junior Program
- Junior Leaders When the Juniors are ready to show focus and Commitment
- Black Belt Club Juniors to follow the adult Curriculum in a Junior environment
- Masters Club Juniors who reach reach Black Belt Level
These levels of training are a very necessary addition to the Junior Program. It is essential to keep the Juniors motivated and inspired and this staged development is one of the best methods to ensure that happens.
We will continue to help students to make continual progress through the stripe system. Those small increments add up to massive improvements over time.
We continue to add additional assistant Instructors to the team. I’m sure that you will agree that we have to set and keep the standards high as I know students will reach these levels. If we set the standard low, they will also reach those levels.
