Giving Credit Where it’s Due

admin | April 14, 2009

We are very fortunate to have many excellent Assistant Instructors and Students at Jiu Jitsu Calgary who have stepped up and offered their services to help fellow students.

There are several I could mention right now but one member who I would like to give a “shout out” to this month and be recognised for his efforts is Sean Grimes. I’m sure you will have met him by now.

Sean attends all 4 adult Jiu Jitsu Classes every week, when we increase to 5 regular classes in the very near future, I’ve no doubt he will be there. He also attends the additional training clinics that I organize each month.

Sean has also committed himself to assisting in the kid’s classes – both Little Samurai and Junior classes.

I hold regular Free Self Defense Courses and there are no prizes for guessing who helps out on those.

This amount of training and commitment is very commendable to say the least, it has allowed Sean to progress comfortably in our system of Jiu Jitsu to become very competent in carrying out techniques and sharing the form with fellow students.

When someone shows this level of commitment and maintains it, you know they are going to have great success.

Sean has introduced friends to Jiu Jitsu Calgary too, the best compliment I could hope for.

We realize that not everyone is in a position to offer this amount of assistance but every bit does really help and is very much appreciated. You can join me in praising Sean by using the comments section below.

Excellent Job Sean Grimes, keep up the great work.

April 2009 Newsletter

admin | April 12, 2009

Welcome to the latest Jiu Jitsu Calgary Newsletter.

There were several events throughout this last Semester which went very well.

The Grading for both adults and Kids were excellent, there is another Grading to be held in April for the students who missed out and I have no doubt that the students involved will put up another great showing.

We had another sparring Clinic for the adults and it was very apparent as to how much everyone had grown in confidence and skill since the last session. We will be holding many more.

The Kids Movie was great too. Kung Fu Panda is a great Movie and it’s amazing to know how many of the young kids actually get the point. There is no Secret message, no secret ingredient, no secret technique - The Secret is You. Maybe a few adults should be watching it too :o)

There are many more events planned for This Semester so keep your eyes peeled.

I will be releasing details of the New Junior Program that will be available this semester too.

Please do not hesitate to contact me directly with any questions or concerns.

Best Regards

Sensei Malcolm Bale

Kids Classes

The Kids classes are growing very steadily. I very much appreciate the help from our Assistant Instructors. Keep up the Great work.

It is very rewarding teaching the Kids. They learn so quickly and rely on us to be role models for them. There is so much energy and excitement amongst them during classes, it’s a pleasure to experience.

Junior Classes are now available on Monday 6pm and Wednesday 6pm or on Friday 6pm and Sunday 4pm.We have had a few move over to the Monday / Wednesday but if you are interested in that as an option, let us know.

Little Samurai classes are now available on Sunday at 2pm and Sunday at 3pm. Again let us know if you are interested in jumping over to the 2pm class.

Easter

Classes for the New Semester commenced the First week of April. There will be no classes on 10th, 11th and 12th April for the Easter Weekend.
The Semester will run through until June 29th.
Victoria Day is Monday 18th May, there will be no training that day only.
____

Adult and Kids Gradings

Both Adult and Kids Grading will be held during the last weekend of June.

I have been given some guidelines for time between Adult Grading, from Sensei Kevin. There are different recommendations for each belt level, this guideline will differ, depending on how many classes you attend each week too.

I will be making the guidelines available to you. So that there are no surprises or disappointments when it comes to your Grading

____

Adult Technical Training Session

Throughout This Semester, we will be holding many additional training sessions for adults -

Sparring, Grappling and Technical Training.
Visit our Facebook Page via the link at the bottom of this e-mail. You’ll see many photos and videos posted there.
____

Camp of Combat Arts

The Camp of Combat Arts will be held on the 4th and 5th of July. It will be a great weekend of Training. Sessions will be available for Adults and this year we are introducing a Kids Camp too.
It’s a great opportunity to experience other aspects of Martial Arts and to experience Instructors offering an alternative approach.
You have an opportunity to train with 8 Instructors over the weekend.
Classes will be held at Southland Leisure Centre, right here in Calgary.
____

Kids Movie Day
These classes are organised to give the kids an additional opportunity for fun in the Dojo. This will help to make a better connection for them to keep up their attendance for many years to come.

The Kids Movie Day gives us an opportunity to teach some additional skills, as well as to get them actively involved in some related physical and fun activities.

This is also an opportunity for your kids to bring their Buddies along to join in the Fun.

We would like to keep this as a regular event but obviously, we will only make these activities available, as long as parents are showing an interest in their children attending them.

The next Kids Movie Day will be held at the end of April.
