Sparring Session - April

admin | March 30, 2009

Our Next Clinic will cover Sparring, it is an introductory session that is suitable for all of our adult students members. Certainly nothing for anyone to worry about.

Date - Saturday 4th April, 2009 from 10am - 12:30 pm

This will be a very well controlled session, we’ll go through some sparring drills. There will also be some time allocated to Bag Work and Pad Work.

Students who attended the last session has a thoroughly enjoyable time and reaped the benefits. Great for improving your fitness too.

There is no cost for this additional training, however, there will be some protective gear required. We do have some sparring gear available.

It is advised that students do start to collect their own sets together, the equipment we have as the moment is new but as you see the gallons of sweat that can come into contact with such items may be the incentive you need to start acquiring Gloves, Head Guard, Foot Protectors, Groin Protector, Mouth Guard, Hand Wraps etc.

For this upcoming session, I would advise you acquire a mouthguard and handwraps as minimum.

If you would like to attend, please fill-in the form below.

I look forward to seeing you there.

admin | March 7, 2009

Hi - Welcome to the latest Jiu Jitsu Calgary Newsletter.
February flew by, we’re into March and now the Grading is just around the corner
Our Kids Movie Day proved to be very popular in February, which was great to see. The adults who attended the sparring session also had a most enjoyable session.
We will be holding many more.
I have been organising many special clinics for the adults in the coming months, are having sessions from many specialists from various areas of Martial Arts and related interests such as Judo. Wrestling, Boxing, Knife Defense, Yoga, Kung Fu, Functional Fitness and many more.
There is plenty going on at the club so be sure to keep you eyes on the events listed and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.
Best Regards

Kids Classes
The Kids classes are going very well, it’s such a pleasure to see the kids making such progress. I look forward to seeing them perform in the upcoming Grading.
I’m looking to Introduce a couple more class times for Juniors to ensure we can give enough individual attention to students and to ensure we do not get overcrowded in the Dojo.
The intended extra days are Monday (6 - 6:45pm) and Wednesday (6 - 6:45pm). Please let me know if you are interested in having your kids at these times. As you are an existing Member, you will have first choice for switching over to these days.
Monday and Wednesday or Friday and Sunday
We are looking to Introduce another session for Little Samurai for the same reason.
The additional Little Samurai Class will still be on the Sunday but starting at 2pm.

The Spring Semester

Classes for the New Semester will commence the First week of April. There will be no classes on 10th, 11th and 12th April for the Easter Weekend.
The Semester will run through until June 29th.
Victoria Day is Monday 18th May, there will be no training that day only.
Just letting everyone know in plenty of time.
I am considering a change to Adult Classes too and that is keeping classes to an hour long and having an optional half an hour fitness session at the end, just for those who are interested.
Let me know your thoughts.
I am keeping a couple of days Free to allow for future expansion. We have many more hours that are available throughout the day too.

Adult and Kids Gradings

Both Adult and Kids Gradings will be held during the last weekend of March.

Adults - Saturday March 28th 10am
Little Samurai and Juniors will be held on normal Class Times on Sunday March 29th

Training Clinics

There are many Training Clinics lined up for adult students to attend. These are aimed at being practical and a great benefit to all students.
The next Clinic will be held by a Competitive MMA Instructor. We’ll be covering many drills and training methods recommended to anyone interested in competitive Martial Arts
The next clinic will be held on April 4th at 10am.

Camp of Combat Arts

The Camp of Combat Arts will be held on the 4th and 5th of July. It will be a great weekend of Training. Sessions will be available for Adults and this year we are introducing a Kids Camp too.
It’s a great opportunity to experience other aspects of Martial Arts and to experience Instructors offering an alternative approach.
You have an opportunity to train with 8 Instructors over the weekend.
Classes will be held at Southland Leisure Centre, right here in Calgary.

Kids Movie Day
These classes are organised to give the kids an additional opportunity for fun in the Dojo. This will help to make a better connection for them to keep up their attendance for many years to come.
The Kids Movie Day gives us an opportunity to teach some additional skills, as well as to get them actively involved in some related physical and fun activities.
This is also an opportunity for your kids to bring their Buddies along to join in the Fun.
We would like to keep this as a regular event but obviously, we will only make these activities available, as long as parents are showing an interest in their children attending them.
The next Kids Movie Day will be held on April 4th.

Technical Training - March

admin | March 7, 2009

This Week I am organising a Technical Training Session for Coloured Belts. This upcoming session will specifically cover Yellow Belt Curriculum and then followed by a session for more senior belts to go through techniques related to more Upper Belt Curriculum

I will be covering each and every technique in the Yellow Belt Curriculum which will take about 1.5 hours. There is no cost for this extra training, just adding even more value to your Membership and to help prepare students for Gradings which will be held at the end of March.

You will undoubtedly find this session to be very beneficial.

I can only make these sessions available as long as there is enough interest to justify the additional time and effort. Sessions for other Belt levels will be held over the coming weeks to, these will be available to adult students who are Grading for that level or are already above that level.

Remember that a firm knowledge and understanding of the lower belt levels will help to create a solid foundation for your Jiu Jitsu.

Time - 10am - 11:30am - Yellow

Time - 11:45am - 1:45pm - Others

I’m sure you’ll agree, It is essential to include bags of fun in the kids training sessions and these additional events gives us an opportunity to do just that.

We are organising a high energy fun training session, followed by a fun Gladiator Style competition to really keep the kids highly motivated about training.

It’s an opportunity to bring Buddies along and have some fun with them.

We’re helping to build confidence by encouraging the kids to speak out in a group, we helping to build friendships by creating a fun atmosphere.

It’s good for the kids to attend the Dojo for fun events to help them see it for much more than attending classes and learning curriculum.
